Postpartum
Care for
the fourth “trimester” of
pregnancy.
With the changes in our life style, the
increase of caesarean or instrumental
births, the decreased support from extended
family and the speedy return to work after
the birth of a baby, there has been a
rise of postpartum depression. We too
often allow our surrounding to dictate
that we be super-women.
Post-partum depression was practically
non-existent in the past and is more or
less unique to our North American culture.
Nowadays 50-80% of mothers will suffer
some degree of depression, from baby blues
to full psychosis.
Most can be avoided.
A postpartum doula helps a new mom or a
once again mom with the transition, from
pregnancy to motherhood.
She is a non-judgmental friend to confide
into and an assistant in mothering. She
is experienced and knowledgeable, can
introduce you to support groups and other
resources. She is an invaluable asset.
No caesarean mom or mom of twins should
go without.
